Mental Health Worker

This comprehensive course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to begin working as an entry-level mental health worker. This course helps students prepare to assume an entry-level job as a Mental Health Worker.

 

Students will gain a basic understanding of mental health care concepts, including common mental health disorders, treatment options, and patient care fundamentals. They will also build prerequisite knowledge about the role and responsibilities of a Mental Health Worker throughout the patient care process so they are ready to practice applying their knowledge in a lab setting. It is particularly suited for those aspiring to become entry-level mental health workers, including recent graduates, career changers interested in mental health care, support staff within healthcare settings looking to specialize, and volunteers or family caregivers seeking formal training in mental health support.

 

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will:

 

  1. Understand Mental Health Fundamentals: Acquire a solid foundation in mental health concepts, including the identification and understanding of common mental health disorders.
  2. Learn Treatment Modalities: Gain knowledge about various treatment options and interventions used in mental health care, including medication, therapy, and alternative treatments.
  3. Develop Patient Care Skills: Learn the basics of patient care in a mental health context, focusing on communication, empathy, and support strategies for individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
  4. Understand the Role of a Mental Health Worker: Get a clear picture of the day-to-day responsibilities and ethical considerations of a mental health worker, preparing for effective patient interaction and care coordination.
