Shelton State’s Practical Nursing Apprenticeship with Bibb Medical Center
Shelton State Community College Practical Nursing (PN) on the Bibb County Medical Center Campus has partnered with Bibb Medical Center to create the Bibb Medical PN Apprenticeship Program. Students interested in this apprenticeship must meet the following criteria:
- Student applicants must apply and be admitted to the PN Nursing Program on the Bibb County Medical Center Campus.
- Applicants must be eligible to take NUR 113 Nursing Concepts I in their spring semester.
Bibb Medical Center will select and hire apprentices based on the number of open positions that are available. Upon selection, students will sign an apprenticeship agreement and must agree to the following:
- Student apprentices must commit to completing On the Job Learning (OJL) that includes working shifts at Bibb Medical Center.
- Student apprentices will be paid on-the-job during their clinical hours. Non-apprentices in health services programs do not receive pay for clinicals.
- Student apprentices will not be paid during classes, labs, or simulations.
- Student apprentices must apply to the Alabama Board of Nursing for an apprentice permit.
- Student apprentices will work one-on-one with experienced nurses who will serve as their journeyworker.
