Shelton State Community College Establishes Athletic Hall of Fame and Requests Nominations

December 6, 2021 – As an exciting addition to the College’s rich heritage and tradition of athletic excellence, Shelton State Community College has established the Shelton State Community College Athletic Hall of Fame (Hall of Fame). The Hall of Fame will serve as a means of recognizing and honoring athletes, coaches, teams, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the athletics programs at the College and who have set high standards for others to emulate.

 

The inaugural Shelton State Community College Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on the evening of February 18, 2022.

 

Nominations for the Hall of Fame must be submitted via the official Shelton State Community College Hall of Fame Packet and Nomination Form. Forms must be completed no later than January 5, 2022, for consideration. Complete nomination packet requirements are listed on the nomination form.

 

Individuals and teams may be nominated from three categories. The nominee must be at least five (5) years removed from enrollment or employment at Shelton State. The categories are listed below.

 

  1. Athlete: any person or team who distinguished himself, herself, or themselves in the field of athletics while enrolled at Shelton State Community College
  2. Coach: any coach with at least five (5) years’ coaching experience (The nominee must be inactive and removed from the Shelton State Community College coaching staff for at least five (5) years. Criteria for consideration should be based on accomplishments that merit statewide recognition or other significant contributions to the athletic programs at Shelton State Community College.)
  3. Contributor: an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the interscholastic athletic program at Shelton State, other than in the fields of coaching and student athletic performance

 

The inaugural Hall of Fame will induct no more than seven (7) individuals and no more than one (1) team. Subsequent classes of inductees will not exceed three (3) per year.

 

Nominations will be accepted from Hall of Fame Selection Committee members, current or former SSCC administration, faculty, staff, alumnus, or a community member. Nominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and character. All candidates will be judged on their significant and/or long-term contributions to the College.
