Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA)

Funds from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) were distributed on April 15th, 2021, to eligible students based on guidelines issued by the U.S. Department of Education. The funds provided economic relief for students enrolled in one or more traditional classroom courses when COVID-19 measures were instituted and instruction was moved to online delivery.

Who is eligible for CRRSAA funds?
Students who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Students enrolled in the spring semester at Shelton State Community College (Exceptions: Students registered for only first term, Maymester, online, or hybrid courses are not eligible.)
  • Students working towards a degree or certificate at Shelton State Community College
  • Students enrolled in at least one traditional (in-person) course on one of the two Shelton State Community College campuses
  • Students who have a valid 2019-2020 FAFSA on file with the Financial Aid Office OR those who are eligible to apply for a FAFSA
  • Students who have a satisfactory academic progress (SAP) status

 

Who is not eligible for CRRSAA funds?

  • Students enrolled exclusively in online courses
  • Students who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents (green card holders)
  • Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students
  • Dual-enrolled high school students or accelerated high school students
  • Students who do not have a valid high school diploma or equivalent
  • Transient students
  • Incarcerated students
  • Students enrolled exclusively in online, hybrid, first term, or Maymester courses
  • Students who withdrew from all Shelton State Community College classes as of the close of business on March 16, 2020
  • Students who withdrew from Shelton State Community College classes, leaving only online and/or hybrid classes remaining as of close of business on March 16, 2020
  • Students who are required but have not registered with Selective Service, or registration with Selective Service could not be verified

 

Did Shelton State determine the eligibility requirements?

No. The guidelines for eligibility were issued by the U.S. Department of Education.

 

How will students be notified about their eligibility?

Potential recipients received an email on April 7th, 2021, notifying them of their potential eligibility for CRRSAA funds and encouraging them to sign up for direct deposit if they had not already done so. The eligibility email was sent to students’ myShelton email addresses.

 

How will Shelton State spend/disburse CRRSAA funds?

The federal government instructed Shelton State Community College to determine eligibility criteria for distribution of emergency financial aid grant and encouraged the college to prioritize students with the greatest need. The College utilized the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC), the same method used in determining federal financial aid eligibility. Students on financial aid with an EFC of 200 up to 5,711 received $640; students with EFC of 0 received $650; students with an EFC from 1-198 received $640.05; and students not on Financial Aid received an award of $286.75.

 

How will eligible students receive CRRSAA funds?

Shelton State Community College emailed potential recipients on April 7, 2021, notifying them of their potential eligibility for CRRSAA funds and encouraging them to sign up for direct deposit if they had not already done so. The eligibility email was sent to students’ MyShelton email address. The email also provided an option for the student to apply the funds to their current balance or an anticipated balance for the upcoming summer 2021 term.
