Shelton State Community College Announces Spring 2020 Graduates and Honors

June 3, 2020 – Shelton State Community College announces its candidates for spring graduation and honorees for the 2019-20 academic year. In a semester filled with challenges, the College is proud of each milestone represented and celebrates alongside each graduate and recipient.

At the conclusion of the spring semester, a total of 155 students were acknowledged for degree or certificate completion including short-term certificate recipients, certificate recipients, associate in applied science degree recipients, and associate in arts/science recipients.

Although Honors Convocation activities were canceled, the hard work of Shelton State students was recently acknowledged. Makaila Anthony and Anna Kate Baxter were named to the Alabama Community College System’s All-Alabama Academic Team and competed for a place on the All-USA Academic Team for Community Colleges.

The five major College awards honored the following students:

H.I. James Outstanding Technical Student Award – Mary Sherrod

I.W. Mitchell Outstanding Technical Student Award – Tama Rogers

Norman C. Cephus Special Achievement Award – Rachel Waddell

Thomas E. Umphrey Outstanding Freshman Award – Grant Sanford

Leo Sumner Outstanding Sophomore Award – Katelyn Burkhalter

In addition to College awards, 81 Shelton State students received 135 scholarships from 19 different institutions totaling more than $750,000 in transfer scholarships. The Shelton State Foundation awarded 105 scholarships totaling $151,900.00.
