Thompson, Sprowl Earn Inaugural NJCAA Coaches Legacy Awards
March 17, 2025 – Shelton State Community College proudly congratulates women’s head basketball coach Madonna Thompson and head baseball coach Bobby Sprowl on being named to the inaugural class of NJCAA Coaches Legacy Awards.
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced its first ever honorees for the Coaches Legacy Awards presented by Nufabrx, which recognizes the all-time winningest coaches in NJCAA history. This is the first time in the nearly 90-year history of the NJCAA that coaches have been recognized in such fashion by the Association.
“I want to offer my congratulations to both Madonna and Bobby on the NJCAA Legacy Award,” said Cara Crosslin, Shelton State Director of Athletics. “I am proud of their accomplishments and am grateful for the way they represent Shelton State Community College.”
Thompson led the Bucs to their 11th consecutive ACCC regular season championship with a 28-4 overall record and a 14-0 mark in conference play. She was named the ACCC Coach of the Year for the 20th time in her career and the 11th year in a row.
Sprowl recently won his 1,200th game to become the third college coach in Alabama to reach the 1,200-win plateau. He has guided the Bucs to seven NJCAA World Series appearances and seven ACCC championships, including each of the last two seasons.
Nearly 200 coaches across 28 different sports were nominated by the member colleges at which they coached.
“Being able to recognize our coaches, past and present, is a wonderful thing for the NJCAA, our member institutions, the coaches, and their families,” said Dr. Christopher Parker, NJCAA President and CEO. “We look forward to having many of these coaches come together for us to celebrate their accomplishments and contributions to the NJCAA later this year.”
All honorees will be recognized at a special luncheon on Tuesday, June 17, in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Hilton Charlotte University Place Hotel. The luncheon will precede the 2025 NJCAA Hall of Fame and Awards event scheduled for later that day.
