Theatre Tuscaloosa to Offer Virtual Mini-Season

Theatre Tuscaloosa

December 10, 2020 – Theatre Tuscaloosa will continue its 2020-21 Spreading Joy Season with a series of virtual presentations of recordings of some of the organization’s greatest hits.

Executive Producer Tina Turley said, “Thanks to streaming video rights becoming available as a response to the global pandemic, we are now able to bring the magic of theatre into our patron’s living rooms. We can now open our archival vaults and share these recordings safely with our audiences.”

The virtual season begins just in time for families to enjoy some quality time at the holidays with the 2017 Theatre Tuscaloosa production of A Christmas Carol, featuring Jeff Wilson as Scrooge. This beloved holiday show will be available to stream on-demand December 19-25.

In January, Theatre Tuscaloosa’s 2014 production of You Can’t Take it With You featuring Kathy Wilson, Gary Wise, Wesley Rorex, and Avery Draper will brighten up the new year. This madcap comedy is about two very different families who come together when their children plan to marry. You Can’t Take It with You will have an online premiere event on Friday, January 22, during which cast, crew, and audience members can interact in the live chat. Thereafter, the show will be available to stream on-demand through January 29.

In May, we travel back to 2012 for Theatre Tuscaloosa’s production of The Sweet Delilah Swim Club (formerly titled The Dixie Swim Club). This comedy is about five Southern women who set aside one weekend every August to unwind and catch up throughout their lives. This hilarious show features Tina Turley, Dianna Brown Shaw, Louise Manos, Jenny Ryan, and Lauren Wilson. A premiere event will be offered on May 21, and on-demand viewing will be available through May 28.

Turley said, “The streaming rights to more shows are being announced every day, and we hope to offer even more of our shows in this format until we can gather safely again.”

Audiences can purchase a “virtual ticket” for $8 per household that will allow the viewer access to either the premiere event with live chat or the ability to stream the show during a 48-hour window. Patrons who support the Spreading Joy fundraising campaign are entitled to one complimentary stream per production.
