Theatre Tuscaloosa to Hold SecondStage Auditions January 30 & 31

Festival of One Act 10 Minute Plays

January 23, 2019 – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for its SecondStage production, A Festival of One Acts, Wednesday, January 30 and Thursday, January 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, located off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

In celebration of World Theatre Day on March 27, Theatre Tuscaloosa is presenting A Festival of One Acts. Bringing together a variety of directors and actors, seven 10-minute one-act plays will be performed. Each of the plays is written by an Alabama resident or native and features a story inspired by Alabama’s bicentennial celebration. The Alabama Bicentennial Commission has endorsed A Festival of One Acts as an official bicentennial event. Male and female performers of all races who are teens through seniors are encouraged to audition. The one-act plays include:

  • Love & Cheese Toast by Cooper Shattuck (Cast: 3 female, 1 male)
  • Salt by Barry Bradford (Cast: 2 female, 1 male)
  • Blessed Event by Sara-Margaret Cates (Cast: 2 female, 2 male)
  • Mama & Me by Allison Upshaw (Cast: 2 female)
  • Redstone by Richard LeComte (Cast: 3 male)
  • Great Again by Nicholas Vasilios Pappas (Cast: 2 female, 2 male)
  • Legends by Wescott Youngson (Cast: 4 male)

Those who audition should prepare a one-minute monologue, come prepared to participate in cold readings from the script(s), and bring a complete list of potential conflicts. It is likely that those cast will be given a role in two or more of the one-act plays. Scripts of each one act are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m.-noon.

Rehearsals will begin the week of February 11. Rehearsals are generally held Monday through Friday evenings and some Sunday afternoons. There will not be rehearsals on most Saturdays. The final rehearsal schedule will be published after casting.
