Theatre Tuscaloosa to Hold Double Auditions April 28 & 29

April 17, 2018 – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open double auditions for Once Upon a Mattress and Forever Plaid Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, located off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd.).

Callbacks are scheduled tentatively for the evenings of Sunday, April 29 and Monday, April 30.

Once Upon a Mattress is a funny and irreverent musical retelling of “The Princess and the Pea.” When Winnifred the Woebegone arrives at Prince Dauntless the Drab’s castle hoping to win his hand, his overbearing mother, Queen Aggravain, invents a test that only a true princess can hope to pass. Filled with songs, laughter, and romance, this summer musical is perfect for the whole family!

Once Upon a Mattress has both male and female roles available for ages 18 and up.

In Forever Plaid, when four young singers are killed in a car crash, they posthumously take the stage for one final gig in this goofy 1950s nostalgia trip. Forever Plaid features four-part harmony songs, like “Crazy ‘bout You Baby,” “16 Tons,” and “Three Coins in the Fountain.”

Four male roles are available for those between ages 20-35.

Those who audition should prepare sixteen bars of a song in the style of the show, bring appropriate shoes and attire for the dance portion, and be prepared for cold readings from the script. All who audition must bring their calendars and list all conflicts regarding the rehearsal schedule on their audition sheets.

Scripts of both musicals are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m.-noon.

Rehearsals for Once Upon a Mattress will begin in May and the beginning of August for Forever Plaid. Rehearsals are generally held Monday through Friday evenings and some Sunday afternoons. There will not be rehearsals on most Saturdays. The final rehearsal schedule will be published after casting.

Once Upon a Mattress will be presented July 13-22, 2018. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, July 14. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; Wednesday, July 18; and Saturday, July 21. A pay-what-you-can final dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, July 12 at 7:30 p.m., proceeds of which will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Forever Plaid will be presented September 7-16, 2018. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, September 8. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; Wednesday, September 12; and Saturday, September 15. A pay-what-you-can final dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m., proceeds of which will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.
