Theatre Tuscaloosa to Hold Auditions April 2 & 3

Second Samuel Auditions Flier

March 27, 2018 – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for Pamela Parker’s Second Samuel Monday, April 2 and Tuesday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, located off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).

It’s the late 1940s in Second Samuel, a sleepy, south Georgia town where it’s hard to keep a secret, but everybody’s got one. This was the summer the beloved music teacher, Miss Gertrude, passed away. As her friends and neighbors prepared for her funeral, her mysteries were unveiled. Nobody could have imagined how the death of one sweet little old lady would turn the entire town upside down!

Second Samuel has roles available of varying ages and ethnicities for five adult males, one teens-20s male, and four adult females. Those who audition will participate in cold readings from the script. All who audition must bring their calendars and list all conflicts regarding the rehearsal schedule on their audition sheets.

Scripts of Second Samuel are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended); however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. – noon.

Rehearsals will begin April 16, 2018 and are generally held Monday through Friday evenings and some Sunday afternoons. There will not be rehearsals on most Saturdays. The final rehearsal schedule will be published after casting.

Second Samuel will be presented May 18-27, 2018 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, May 19. Matinee performances will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays; Wednesday, May 23; and Saturday, May 26. A pay-what-you-can final dress rehearsal will be presented on Thursday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m., a portion of proceeds of which will benefit the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship Fund.
