Theatre Tuscaloosa SecondStage to Present Festival of One Acts 2022

March 21, 2022 – Theatre Tuscaloosa’s SecondStage is producing the fourth annual Festival of One Acts in partnership with Shelton State Community College at the C.A. Fredd Campus (3401 Martin Luther King Blvd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401) March 23-27.

In the spirit of Theatre Tuscaloosa’s “Together Again!” season, the Festival of One Acts includes three comedies about people coming together. On the Menu by Rob Ackerman, directed by Colton Crowe, brings a mother and daughter together as they struggle through “the talk” before the daughter goes off to summer camp. Moonbeams in Mid-Morning by Jean Lenox Toddie, directed by Carol DeVelice, transports us to the hot and humid Florida Everglades where a cub reporter from New York is attempting to track down a mysterious and fiercely private essayist who disappeared in spectacular fashion after giving a graduation speech. Bringing it all together is Check Please! by Jonathan Rand and directed by NorQuina “Q” Rieves. Join a couple of young hopefuls as they meet a myriad of unusual characters at a speed dating night.

Moonbeams in Mid-Morning has a beauty and a complexity to its characters,” said DeVelice. “It’s a short play, but it’s filled with humor and pathos and is a sort of reminder we all need to hear sometimes.”

Rieves relates. “Check Please! is a comical take on a series of underwhelming dates, and audiences will be able to relate to at least a few of them,” she said. “My overall hope is that people laugh and leave with a lighter spirit than when they arrive.”

Theatre Tuscaloosa’s SecondStage program is supported by the Alabama State Council on the Arts, the City of Tuscaloosa, Shelton State Community College, and Signature Sponsor Claire Friday.
