Theatre Tuscaloosa Academy Announces Spring Classes & Workshops

Spring Academy Tap & Improv Classes

January 6, 2020 – Theatre Tuscaloosa Academy is hosting an adult improvisation (improv) introductory workshop on January 12 and two improv classes January 27-March 3 in cooperation with Positively Funny Inc. and the PFI Comedy Institute of Birmingham. Theatre Tuscaloosa Academy will also offer Adult Tap classes (levels 1 & 2) January 16-March 5, and a House Management Training session January 25.

 

“A Taste of Improv,” a two-hour workshop, will be held for individuals interested in taking one of our expanded six-week improv classes. Students will learn the power of “Yes, and,” living in the moment, and boosting self-confidence. This workshop will be held Sunday, January 12 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the Shelton State Community College (SSCC) Dance Studio (1901). The cost of this workshop is $20.

 

“Basic Improv: The Fundamentals” will be held for students interested in learning skills needed to create strong improvised scenes, such as building ensemble and object work. This six-week course will be held January 27-March 3 on Mondays from 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. in the SSCC Dance Studio (1901). No experience is required, and the cost of this course is $195 ($175 if you attend “A Taste of Improv”).

 

“Mastering Improv: Long Form” is a course for students who have completed basic, intermediate, and advanced improv. This class is designed to help students master their skills in the areas of Advanced Scene Work, Characters & Environment, and Styles & Genres. This six-week course will be held January 27-March 3 on Tuesdays from 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. in SSCC’s Dance Studio (1901). The cost of this course is $195.

 

Theatre Tuscaloosa Academy will host Adult Tap classes (levels 1 and 2) January 16-March 5. Adult Tap Level 1 is designed for beginners and/or those with limited tap experience who would like to develop their mastery of basic tap skills. Adult Level 2 is designed for those who have completed our beginning or level 1 tap course or for persons who wish to advance their experience with a variety of tap styles. Classes will be held on eight Thursdays in the SSCC Dance Studio (1901). Level 1 will meet from 6-7 p.m., and Level 2 will meet from 7:15 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. The cost for each individual course is $40.

 

Theatre Tuscaloosa will also host a free House Management Training session open to anyone who may be interested in becoming a house manager. In this two-hour training session, participants will learn how to work with the stage manager to keep the performance running smoothly and on time. This session will be held January 25, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at SSCC in Room 1944. Light refreshments will be served.
