Skills for Success to Offer New, Free Courses at Shelton State Community College

Upcoming Skills for Success Offerings

In cooperation with the ACCS Innovation Center, Shelton State helps students as they complete new rapid, job training program for in-demand jobs.

November 6, 2024 – As part of its Skills for Success courses, Shelton State will soon offer three new job training programs. Coming soon as training options are ambulance operator training, community health worker training, and customer service training.  Full course descriptions can be found on the Skills for Success Course Catalog.

As with other programs, students interested in the three new programs are eligible to receive the no cost, hands-on training as part of the Alabama Community College System’s (ACCS) rapid training program, Skills for Success. Courses, developed in collaboration with the ACCS Innovation Center, provide a hybrid learning experience—combining online and hands-on components—and is offered at no cost to participants, thanks to the support of the state legislature.

Skills for Success programs are tailored to meet the specific needs of Alabama’s industries, such as food and beverage or trucking businesses, ensuring that training is relevant and impactful for in-demand job roles.

Students complete most of their training online and will finish the rapid training program with a hands-on class. Upon completion, students will be awarded the ACCS credential, so employers know they are job ready.

“We are excited to add these three new course options to our roster,” shared Emily Wyatt, Shelton State’s Workforce Development Project Manager. “We are enthusiastic about the opportunities that our new options will provide, but we remain equally excited about our programs currently in progress.”

Training is currently available in the following areas:

  • Carpentry Helper
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Electrical Helper
  • Fiber Optics
  • Food and Beverage
  • Heavy Equipment (Skid Steer, Bulldozer, Excavator)
