Shelton State Welding Students Visit Southern Heat Exchanger

November 13, 2024 – Shelton State Community College (SSCC) Welding students recently visited Southern Heat Exchanger Company (SHECO) for a tour that included highlights related to the students’ classroom experiences. Joey Foster, QA Manager and Welding Engineer at SHECO, led the tour.

While visiting, SSCC welding students toured the machine shop where SHECO rolls and fabricates their heat exchanger shells. The students also watched SHECO employees use manual GTAW to weld in small tubes of a heat exchanger. They learned about workflow and fabrication processes, and Mr. Foster demonstrated quality assurance techniques applied to welds.

“This experience allowed our students to have real-world experience and understand the importance of quality welds,” shared Scottie Smith, SSCC Welding instructor. “Our faculty members are grateful to Joey Foster, Randall Wormley, April Kendrick, March Copen, and Keith Austin for making this visit possible.”
