Shelton State Visual Arts to Showcase Work of Nathaniel Allen

Nathanial Allen Art Show

January 20, 2023 – Beginning Thursday, January 26, Shelton State Community College’s Visual Arts Department will showcase the artwork of Nathaniel Allen. The exhibition, Psychotropic Century, will appear in the Martin Campus Cadence Bank Art Gallery through March 3. A special reception for Mr. Allen will be held on March 2 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.   Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.

Nathaniel Allen creates abstract and representational fine art, murals, book and magazine illustrations, comics, logo designs, and has exhibited works in a variety of juried and solo exhibitions. He is a professor and former chairperson of the Department of Visual Art at Alabama State University.

Allen has won a variety of awards in juried exhibitions, and his sequential comic art was published in the British Horror anthology, “Hallowscream.”

“The show will be a collection of old and new works showing an eclectic assortment of themes and artistic experiments that incorporate fine art and illustration,” said Allen. “I am very excited to share my work at Shelton State Community College.”

“The Shelton State Visual Art department is very excited to display the work of a professional the caliber of Mr. Nathaniel Allen III,” said instructor Carson Grubaugh. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students and community members to see high-level professional artworks in person. We are very grateful to Mr. Allen for sharing his talents with the Tuscaloosa community.”

The Cadence Bank Art Gallery, located on the Martin Campus, showcases a changing series of exhibitions of local, regional, and national artists. The Gallery is open during the College’s regular business hours.
