Shelton State Visual Arts to Present 2024 Fall Art Show
November 18, 2024 – Shelton State Community College’s Visual Arts Department will open its Fall 2024 Student Art Exhibition on Monday, December 2 in the Martin Campus Cadence Bank Art Gallery. A reception honoring the artists will be held on Thursday, December 5 from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will run through December 13 and is free and open to the public.
“This show is especially exciting for the department as it is the first time we will be able to show the results of the new studio-driven Art Appreciation format we have been crystalizing over the last two years,” shared acclaimed artist and SSCC visual arts instructor Carson Grubaugh. “It is stunning to see what self-proclaimed ‘non-artist’ students do when given a place to explore their creativity.”
Part of Shelton State’s designation as the Community College of the Fine Arts for the state of Alabama, the visual arts department focuses on instruction in art techniques and processes engaging students in creative thinking, self-exploration, and critical evaluation. Courses are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in studio arts and art history. The art program offers experience for students pursuing transfer to a four-year college program, art careers, and/or personal enrichment.
The Cadence Bank Art Gallery, located on the Martin Campus, showcases a changing series of exhibitions of local, regional, and national artists. The Gallery is open during the College’s regular business hours.
