Shelton State Visual Arts to Present 2023 Spring Art Show

April 6, 2023 – Shelton State Community College’s Visual Arts Department will open its Spring 2023 Student Art Exhibition on Monday, April 24 in the Martin Campus Cadence Bank Art Gallery.   A reception honoring the artists will be held on Thursday, April 27 from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a special award presentation at 4:30 p.m.  Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.

“This end-of-the-semester showcase is my favorite part of each semester,” stated award-winning artist and SSCC visual arts instructor Carson Grubaugh. “This is an excellent chance to show off all of the artistic talent of the Shelton State student body and we encourage our College and community members to attend.”

Part of Shelton State’s designation as the Community College of the Fine Arts for the state of Alabama, the visual arts department focuses on instruction in art techniques and processes engaging students in creative thinking, self-exploration, and critical evaluation.  Courses are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in studio arts and art history.  The art program offers experience for students pursuing transfer to a four-year college program, art careers, and/or personal enrichment.

The Cadence Bank Art Gallery, located on the Martin Campus, showcases a changing series of exhibitions of local, regional, and national artists. The Gallery is open during the College’s regular business hours.
