Shelton State Community College Visual Arts Presents Best of SSCC Student Art

Best of Student Art Flier

August 30, 2018 – Shelton State Community College visual arts will present its “Best of SSCC Student Art” exhibition August 31 through October 1 in the Cadence Bank Art Gallery on the College’s Martin Campus. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

Showcasing student artwork from sixteen prior juried student exhibitions, “Best of SSCC Student Art” will highlight award-winning pieces from the last eight years.

“In reviewing these pieces, I marveled at the amount of talent I’ve witnessed in my classroom,” said Jaia Chen, art instructor and exhibition coordinator. “I am genuinely proud of the work of these students, and I am excited to display it once again for our community.”

Part of Shelton State’s designation as the Community College of the Fine Arts for the state of Alabama, the visual arts department focuses on instruction in art techniques and processes engaging students in creative thinking, self-exploration, and critical evaluation. The courses are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in studio arts and art history. The art program offers experience for students pursuing transfer to a four-year college program, art careers, and/or personal enrichment.

The Cadence Bank Art Gallery, located on the Martin Campus, showcases a changing series of exhibitions of local, regional, and national artists. At the end of each semester, the gallery also features a juried student art exhibition with a purchase award.
