Terrific Tuesday Concert Series Welcomes UAB Faculty Brass Quintet

September 27, 2019 – Shelton State Community College’s 2019-20 Terrific Tuesday Concert Series continues with the UAB Faculty Brass Quintet on Tuesday, October 1 at 1:00 p.m. in the Alabama Power Recital Hall.

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Faculty Brass Quintet consists of Dr. James Zingara and Dr. Steve Roberts, trumpets, James Baker, horn, Jeff Koonce, trombone, and Dr. Eli Westerfield, tuba. The UAB Brass Quintet was established in 2011 and supports the UAB Department of music through participation in the annual Brass Symposium, on campus recitals, numerous regional school performances and clinics, and the Fall and Summer Commencement Exercises.

 

The UAB Brass Quintet also performs a series of monthly “First Thursday” noontime pops concerts in the University Hospital atrium sponsored by UAB Hospital and the UAB Hospital Auxiliary. In addition, the group has performed at the College Music Society Southern Conference, and has taken two European tours in which they performed in Germany, Latvia, and the Czech Republic. In recent years, the ensemble has premiered new works by William Price, Holland Hopson, Mark Lackey, Monroe Golden, Bryan Page, Ron Wray, and Wesley Johnson.

 

The UAB Faculty Brass Quintet is dedicated to educational outreach through the performance of free school shows for elementary and secondary music programs throughout the state and region.

 

Shelton State’s Terrific Tuesday Concert Series is designed to showcase a variety of repertory styles. Weekly performances are offered by guest artists as well as Shelton State faculty and students.
