Terrific Tuesday Concert Series to Host Guest Musicians

October 14, 2019 – Dr. Jamie Dahman, tenor, is in his fourth year at Delta State University in Cleveland, MS, where he teaches applied voice, lyric diction, vocal pedagogy, and is also a First Year Seminar mentor. He is also the Fulbright Program Advisor and Scholar Liaison, and active across campus on a number of committees. In 2019, he was named Delta State Universities Humanities Teacher of the Year. In addition to his duties at Delta State, he is the Director of Music at St. Luke United Methodist Church.

 

Prior appointments include Lone Star College in Kingwood, TX; Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX; and the University of Michigan – Flint. Prior to beginning his academic career, Dr. Dahman was a Fulbright Fellow in Bulgaria, where he studied at the Academy of Music, Dance, and Fine Art in the city of Plovdiv. His program included voice lessons, coachings, language instruction, and Bulgarian music history. He was also able to collect scores, which led to the publication of Bulgarian Art Song (2018, Classical Vocal Reprints), an anthology of sixteen songs by Bulgarian composers.

 

Performance credits include Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, the Schubert Mass in G, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, and the roles of Jupiter (Semele), Alfredo (La Traviata), Lensky (Eugene Onegin), and Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi). He particularly enjoys singing art song recitals, and has performed across the United States and in Europe.

 

Christy Lee continues to lead a diverse career as a collaborative pianist, chamber musician, vocal coach, conductor, and educator. In the world of opera, Dr. Lee has worked as pianist, coach, and assistant conductor at Opera Memphis, Chattanooga Opera, Pensacola Opera, Cleveland Opera, Knoxville Opera, Crested Butte Music Festival, La Musica Lirica, Lake Placid International Voice Seminar, Pine Mountain Music Festival, Lyric Opera Cleveland, and Dorian Opera Theatre. As a recitalist she has appeared in performance with such notable artists as Frederica von Stade, Stanford Olsen, Lisette Oropesa, Morris Robinson and Kristin Lewis. In May of 2012 she had the pleasure of being a translator and vocal coach for the inaugural US/Cuba Choral Summit in Havana, Cuba and she was as an Executive Leader for America Cantat 2016 in The Bahamas. For six years Lee was on the faculty of the College of The Bahamas where she was a founding member of C Force, the premiere chamber group of the College of The Bahamas. She has held other academic postings at the University of Tennessee and Maryville College. Her recordings can be found on the Centaur and the Lucky Seven labels. She holds degrees from Florida State University, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and the University of Alabama. She is now on the faculty in the Music Department of Mississippi State University and resides in Starkville, Mississippi.
