February 15, 2018 – Shelton State Community College’s Salon and Spa Management Department will present their annual hair show on Thursday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the Martin Campus Atrium. Admission to Hair Battle is free, and all are invited to attend.

“Shelton State stylists will weave their way through four rounds of hair, make-up, and fashion battle,” said Latoya Armstead, Shelton State salon and spa management instructor. “This year’s competition rounds will include ‘bob and weave,’ ‘three-strand knockout,’ ‘put your dos up,’ and ‘to dye for.’ They are ready to rumble!”

This year’s event will also pay tribute to Kelsey Hunnicutt’s battle with cancer and her drive to follow her passion for the cosmetology industry. A former student, Hunnicutt died on February 8, 2018, following a seizure.

Honoring others is a common theme for Shelton State Salon and Spa Management. Last year’s hair show, Angel on Broadway, honored the memory of Angel Eaton, a local high school student who succumbed to her battle with cancer. Most recently, faculty and students volunteered their time and talent to provide hair and make-up services for the Tim Tebow Foundation’s Night to Shine event on Friday, February 9.

“I am grateful for the work of this department,” said Grant Cockrell, Associate Dean of Technical Services. “Instructors, Latoya Armstead and Melissa Lesley, lead this area with excellence and continually promote the program while also serving the community.”
