July 13, 2022 – The Shelton State Community College (SSCC) cosmetology program offers salon services to the public at designated hours. The salon, located on Shelton State’s Martin Campus, is now open Monday through Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Appointments can be made, but walk-in customers are welcome.
Housed within the Salon and Spa Management program, the Cosmetology salon is an affordable way for the West Alabama community to stay current on styles, trends, and products. Instructor Latoya Simmons encourages men and women to consider the department’s services when scheduling their next salon appointment. “Our current customers are very pleased with the services our students provide as well as the top name brand products we use.”
In addition to students studying cosmetology, the department has also increased opportunities for students interested in becoming a barber or nail technician. With financial aid options available through Pell grant, students can begin either program as early as this fall. The four-semester barbering program offers a certificate and associate degree in applied science, while the nail technician program is a certificate option that can be earned in three semesters.
“We are graduating a strong class of students in our nail technician program at the end of this semester,” said Simmons. “With this group of graduates getting ready to go out on their own, we can’t wait to see who follows in their footsteps.”
No former experience is necessary to enroll in the barbering or nail technician programs.
