Shelton State Community College Workforce Development Offering Summer Training in Hospitality Service and Patient Care

June 4, 2019 – Shelton State Community College (SSCC) Workforce Development will offer training courses this summer for students interested in hospitality service and patient care. The courses will be offered at various times in July and August and are free to students who qualify for WIOA assistance.

 

Training courses for hospitality services include opportunities as a certified restaurant server, certified front desk representative, and certified guestroom attendant. Each course certification includes forty hours of classroom instruction and lab and approximately one hour for the exam. Upon successful completion of each course and a 70% or higher exam score, participants will earn certification in their respective area.

 

Each course will be held two evenings per week from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The list below provides beginning and ending dates for each course. Course specifics are available by contacting SSCC Workforce Development.

 

Certified Front Desk Representative: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, July 8 – 27

Certified Guestroom Attendant: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, July 23 – August 10

Certified Restaurant Server: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, August 13 – 31

 

In addition to the service certifications, SSCC Workforce Development will offer patient care technician training. Designed to provide specific care knowledge, the program meets necessary requirements for completing students to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) – Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) Exam; the Certified Nurse Technician (CNT) Exam; and/or the Certified Patient Care Association (CPCA) Exam.

 

The patient care technician course will meet July 8 until August 1. Instruction on Mondays and Wednesdays will be held at Shelton State’s Martin Campus from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Clinical instruction on Tuesdays and Thursdays will be held at DCH Health Systems from 6:45 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. Course specifics are available by contacting SSCC Workforce Development.
