Shelton State Community College Workforce Development Offering Free Patient Care Assistant Course

Patient Care Assistant Course Free to qualified applicants

August 30, 2021 – Shelton State Community College Workforce Development will offer a patient care assistant (PCA) course September 20 – December 9, 2021, on the Martin Campus.  The course is free to qualifying participants.  Seating is limited and will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The healthcare industry is undergoing major changes in the provision of patient care.  This restructuring has resulted in the introduction of a new category of healthcare workers trained to perform a variety of patient care services.  Participants in the PCA course will learn basic skills including implementing a specific care plan, providing rehabilitation services, offering basic bedside care, collecting lab specimens, and learning fundamentals of phlebotomy and EKGs.

“We are very excited to offer this course this fall,” said Margie Falls, the College’s Corporate Training and Community Education Manager.  “Courses like this tend to fill very quickly, so we encourage interested students to register soon!”

To register for the course, interested students should contact Shelton State Workforce Development at 205.391.2434 or workforce@sheltonstate.edu.
