Shelton State Community College Welcomes Charles Tiller as New Cross Country Head Coach

January 12, 2023 – Shelton State Community College Athletics welcomes Charles Tiller as the College’s new cross country head coach.  Tiller brings over 20 years of experience to SSCC. He previously served as head coach at American Christian Academy, known statewide for its cross country program and winning record.

 

Tiller is the 7th winningest coach in Alabama high school history, with more than 30 team state championships and more than 120 individual and relay state champions. He is a five-time Alabama Coach of the Year award winner. Tiller holds advanced certifications from USA Track & Field and the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

 

He is excited to join SSCC Athletics and add to the College’s winning legacy.

 

“I am so fortunate to be a part of Shelton State athletics,” said Coach Tiller.  “I look forward to helping build the cross country program to the same level of excellence as the other sports at Shelton State.”

 

SSCC Athletics Director Cara Crosslin says Tiller’s experience and winning record make him a great addition to the Buccaneers.  “Charles Tiller is a championship-winning leader with experience coaching the state’s premier high school runners,” said Crosslin.  “He has made great connections with runners across Alabama, and we believe he will help our team compete at a higher level.”

 

Shelton State athletics now boasts men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, cross country, golf, and competitive cheer.  Club sports include fishing and esports.
