Shelton State Community College Visual Arts Presents Slices of Life

Slice of Life - Shelton State Visual Arts

January 14, 2020 – Shelton State Community College’s Visual Arts Department will open its Slices of Life Student Art Exhibition on January 17 in the Martin Campus Cadence Bank Art Gallery. The exhibition will run through February 23 and is free and open to the public.

Slices of Life feature the artwork of Shelton State’s Drawing II students. The concept of the exhibition is autobiographically based on the life of each student and focuses on one significant moment, a fragment of an event, or a page of an artist’s book.

Part of Shelton State’s designation as the Community College of the Fine Arts for the state of Alabama, the visual arts department focuses on instruction in art techniques and processes engaging students in creative thinking, self-exploration, and critical evaluation. Courses are designed to provide students with a strong foundation in studio arts and art history. The art program offers experience for students pursuing transfer to a four-year college program, art careers, and/or personal enrichment.

The Cadence Bank Art Gallery, located on the Martin Campus, showcases a changing series of exhibitions of local, regional, and national artists. The Gallery is open during the College’s regular business hours.
