January 8, 2024 – Shelton State Community College (SSCC) will honor three nursing students selected for apprenticeships with Bibb Medical Center at a special signing event on January 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Bibb Medical Center (BMC) in Centreville, Alabama. (208 Pierson Avenue) Members of the media are invited to attend.

The Bibb Medical Center apprenticeship program requires on-the-job learning, nursing coursework, and labs and simulations at Shelton State Community College’s Bibb Campus. Candidates must be enrolled as nursing students and on-site for on-the-job learning as required. Apprentices are paid while on the job and performing clinical hours.

“We are proud of the students who are participating in the apprenticeship opportunity at Bibb Medical Center,” said SSCC President Jonathan Koh. “This signing is truly a celebration of their accomplishments as well as a time for the College to demonstrate its faith in their potential.”

Shelton State and BMC partnered in 2022 to create a practical nursing program at Bibb Medical Center. The inaugural cohort recently graduated. The program is designed to increase the number of skilled nurses in West Alabama.

“Apprenticeships are the standard in work-based learning.  We are thrilled to have another opportunity to invest in their training,” said Joseph Marchant, BMC CEO.
