March 7, 2023 – Shelton State Community College (SSCC) music students recently competed at the Alabama Chapter of the National Association of Teacher of Singing (ALANATS) auditions at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.  These auditions are held annually for singers from high school divisions, as well as from two and four-year colleges, and a Shelton State student was recognized for their outstanding performance.

Attending participants included Addie Hughes, Amaria Jackson, Skylar Mullenix, and Caroline Phillips.  Amy Ashley, SSCC’s staff accompanist for the music department, was their collaborative accompanist for the event.  Amaria Jackson won first place in her category, First-Year College Musical Theatre, Treble Voice.

“The College’s regular participation in these prestigious auditions is something we work toward each year,” stated Dr. J.F. Mark Brown, SSCC music instructor.  “The students who competed were excellent representatives of the College and more than met our high expectations!”
