January 11, 2022 – At the conclusion of the fall 2021 semester, Shelton State Community College students successfully earned certificates through the College’s RealSkill Institute.  Two specific areas of achievement were met with great success.

In fall of 2021, 316 students passed a Career Ready Assessment.  A component of the SkillsUSA Career Essentials Suite, the Career Ready Assessment tests competency levels in personal skills, workplace skills, and technical skills.  Assessments were designed on the SkillsUSA Framework Essential Elements developed by SkillsUSA.

In addition to the successes of these 316 students, 56 additional students earned the Career Essentials Credential.  By earning a combined total of seven certificates, students completing this credential indicated proficiency in defining and implementing the skills identified within the SkillsUSA Framework and demonstrated that these skills could be effectively demonstrated in the workplace.

Part of the College’s Quality Enhancement Plan, the RealSkill Institute is included in Shelton State’s Orientation to College course.  The RealSkill Institute prepares students to be career-ready in the areas of professional communication, decision making, and personal responsibility.
