Shelton State Community College Students Finish Third at Competition

Congrats! Bronze Bucs

March 1, 2021 – Shelton State Community College students and members of the Collegiate 100 competed on Saturday in The University of Alabama Black Faculty and Staff Association’s (BFSA) Inaugural Intercollegiate Black History Scholar Bowl at the Bryant Conference. The “Bronze Bucs” finished in third place overall and were the only two-year community college students to participate.

“I am beyond proud of our students,” said Eric Prewitt, SSCC’s Veterans Resource Center Manager and Diversity Liaison. “These students felt it was their responsibility to be participants and set a precedent for future students – especially those of color – to step out of their comfort zones and learn more about Black history.”

Members of the team included Kahlia Davis, Joshua Davis, Deja Evans, Takiyah Gibson, and Kiana Wilkerson. As participants, students competed in categories that included current events, African American history, African American authors, African American political figures, African American activists, and others.

“It was a great experience for everyone,” Prewitt continued. “We’re looking forward to competing again!”
