December 12, 2022 – Now in its third year of competition in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAAE), Shelton State Community College has named its first full time esports coach.

Khaleb Groce has been selected to lead the Shelton State Esports team. Khaleb is from Jacksonville, Alabama. He graduated from Jacksonville State University (JSU) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science-Game Development where he competed in Overwatch, League of Legends, and Valorant while attending. Upon graduation, he coached for two years in the Vanta league where he coached teams in League of Legends, Rocket League, Valorant, Fortnite, and Apex Legends.

Using philosophy he learned while with the Vanta league, Coach Groce is committed to developing esports and ensuring players become good game citizens. He intends to use this mindset in shaping the SSCC Esports program.  “Going forward we will strive to be upstanding gamers and shape ourselves into pillars of the community dedicated to improvement, teamwork, and camaraderie throughout our platforms. Our goal is to be our best not just in gaming, but in every aspect of life,” stated Coach Groce. “I am really excited to take on a new chapter of my esports journey, and I am glad Shelton State is where I am doing it.”
