Shelton State Community College Modern Manufacturing Program Apprenticeships Set to Begin

Modern Manufacturing Apprenticeships now available

September 28, 2021 – Shelton State Community College’s Modern Manufacturing program is set to begin its apprenticeship opportunities as early as October 11.  Interested students may apply now to become eligible for the College’s second fall term.

The Modern Manufacturing apprenticeship program will be in partnership with Mercedes-Benz International (MBUSI).  Individuals accepted into the apprenticeship program will have the opportunity to graduate from the College with an Associate of Applied Science degree, receive a nationally recognized Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship, and enter a full-time career in manufacturing upon completion.  The apprenticeship program will also provide tuition assistance and a generous hourly rate of pay.

“The College’s Modern Manufacturing program is a great doorway for anyone desiring a strong beginning for a manufacturing career,” stated Grant Cockrell, SSCC Associate Dean of Technical Services.  “This is not just a short-term program.  It provides career options and training that will prepare students for long-term goals.”

MBUSI has partnered with the College to operate the Mechatronics training program and the Mercedes Tech training program for many years, however, this will be the first program allowing students to gain manufacturing work experience while still in high school.

“The Modern Manufacturing program will introduce high school students to the manufacturing world and give them some inside information on how advantageous this career field is,” added Wade Smith from MBUSI.  “It will allow them to work and gain experience in manufacturing and earn a nice wage while doing so.  Our company is looking forward to hiring these students because it creates a pipeline of students into our manufacturing facility.”
