Shelton State Community College Makes Contributions to Adopt-a-School Partner

Secret Meals Thanksgiving Food Drive

November 24, 2019 – Shelton State Community College and the Shelton State Community College Foundation partnered with Secret Meals to sponsor students serviced at their Adopt-a-School partner, Englewood Elementary School. Shelton State faculty, staff, and students provided groceries for 22 students at Englewood Elementary School enrolled in the Secret Meals for Hungry Children Program.

Each week, students rely on free and reduced meals for nourishment. Outside of these meals, many receive little to no food. The Secret Meals Program seeks to fill the gaps students experience on the weekends and holidays by slipping meals into their backpacks.

“I am thrilled at the outpouring of support from the members of our campus community,” stated Nor’Quina Rieves, Shelton State Student Engagement Coordinator. “Because of their generosity, we were able to provide groceries for families. I especially want to thank Kimberly Chambless and the Shelton State Foundation for their support. Helping others is an amazing way to celebrate this season of gratefulness and thanksgiving.”
