Shelton State Community College Inducts Inaugural Class to Athletics Hall of Fame
July 27, 2023 – Shelton State Community College recently inducted nine individuals and one team to the Shelton State Community College Athletics Hall of Fame (Hall of Fame). A ceremony was held to honor the inductees on Saturday, July 22, in the Martin Campus Atrium.
Inaugural honorees were nominated from three categories and are at least five (5) years removed from enrollment or employment at Shelton State. The categories for nominees were athletes, coaches, and contributors, and those selected for recognition are listed below.
Steve King, Former SSCC Softball Coach
Susan Thomas Saylor, Former SSCC Softball Coach
Mark Cornelius, Former SSCC Men’s Basketball Coach
Jimmy Collins, Former SSCC Golf Coach
Jack Kubiszyn, Former Baseball Coach
Leo Sumner, Former SSCC President credited with establishing SSCC Athletics
Christa Sanford, Former SSCC Cheer Coach
Bruce Bizzoco, Former SSCC Fencing Coach
Drew Linn, SSCC Athletic Contributor

The Hall of Fame serves to recognize and honor athletes, coaches, teams, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the College’s athletics programs and have set high standards for others to emulate.
“Shelton State Athletics has a winning and storied history, and this inaugural class is just a small portion of the tremendous athletes who have paved the way to our success over the years,” said Cara Crosslin, Shelton State’s Athletics Director. “As the Hall of Fame expands in the years to come, we look forward to honoring even more of our best and most talented former players whom we consider Buccaneers forever.”
