Shelton State Community College Health Information Technology Applications Now Open

Health Information Technology application open for 2022

February 8, 2022 – Shelton State Community College (SSCC) Health Information Technology (HIT) is now accepting applications for its certificate and associate degree in applied science programs.  Applications will be accepted through July 1, 2022.

SSCC Health Information Technology courses are available online and the entire program may be completed virtually.

Health Information Technology (HIT) professionals acquire, organize, and manage health information data.  They ensure quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper and electronic systems.  They use various classification systems to code and categorize patient information for insurance reimbursement purposes, databases and registries, and maintenance of patients’ medical treatment histories.

The Health Information Technology Program at SSCC has initial accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). Only graduates of CAHIIM-accredited programs are eligible to take the national examination to become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT). Shelton State Community College is one of only three CAHIIM-accredited programs in the state of Alabama.

Spacing for the program is limited to twenty-five participants, and students are required to attend a mandatory health information program session prior to submitting an application.
