Shelton State Community College Esports Wins First National Title

April 24, 2024 – For the first time in program history, the Shelton State Esports team has won a national title. The team competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) spring playoffs to end their spectacular season and make program history.

 

Kyle Gillison, Shelton State’s Tekken player, ended the season by becoming the College’s first national champion.

 

Shelton State’s six teams all ranked into the playoffs, with teams representing Valorant, Rocket League, Warzone, Mario Kart, Fortnite, and Tekken. The Rocket League team, consisting of Peyton Caddis, Nicholas Pingry, Alex Medders, Emily West, and Mike West, finished in the round of sixteen.

 

The Warzone team also finished in the round of sixteen. Teammates for Warzone are Sean Sanford, Ethan Schulte, and Trevor Wilson. The Valorant team ended the season in the quarterfinals. Team members are Samuel Bauer, Peyton Caddis, Tyson Cook, McLandon Hunt, Alexander Medders, Emily West, and Trevor Wilson. Coreal Morris competed in Mario Kart.

 

“Shelton State Athletics is known for its winning programs, and adding another national title feels amazing,” said Khaleb Groce, SSCC Head Esports Coach. “We are so proud of this team and believe this is only the beginning.”
