July 24, 2024 – Shelton State Community College (SSCC) is enrolling students in its new Quality Engineering program. The Quality Engineering program will equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work successfully in the manufacturing environment and use quality tools and methods to control outputs.

In addition to an understanding of controlling variation as it applies to manufacturing processes, the program will teach tools and techniques necessary for achieving customers’ expected outcomes. Students will learn critical thinking skills and use data to make decisions that will ultimately be helpful to industry through control of manufacturing processes.

Course highlights will include the history and evolution of modern quality theory, using problem solving models, designing experiments, as well as product, process, and quality system auditing.

“The Quality Engineering degree program is essential in providing industry talent and operational effectiveness in the control of processes,” states Robert Everett, Shelton State’s Quality Engineering instructor. “This intensive program provides the foundational and advanced tool and techniques to build a successful career as a quality engineer.”

The skills being taught in the Quality Engineering program will offer Shelton State students an advantage when applying for industry jobs. “Industry leaders have told me that the skills we are teaching have been badly needed and have not existed to this point,” Everett continued. “International auditing companies have already expressed interest in immediately hiring anyone who graduates from this program.”

Without another similar program in the Alabama Community College System, Everett notes that Shelton State stands poised to become an industry leader. “This program has the potential to set the standard for Quality Engineering training in this area.”

Registration for the Quality Engineering program is currently ongoing and fall classes will begin August 19. To apply and register, visit sheltonstate.edu.
