Shelton State Community College Athletics Playing for Wins in the West Alabama Community

September 27, 2021 – Members of Shelton State Community College Athletics are doing their part to forward the reading goals of West Alabama elementary school students.  In partnership with Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, Southview Elementary School, and University Place Elementary School, coaches and athletes are spending Friday afternoons in these local schools to encourage teachers and students alike.

“Our athletes understand the significance of being encouraged,” said Cara Crosslin, SSCC’s Athletic Director.  “But we want to do more than be on the sidelines to cheer on these students.  We want to be part of the process and make a difference in their lives and in their communities.  We want to be right beside them for their academic wins.”

Shelton State Athletics plans to continue this initiative through the 2021-22 academic year.
