Shelton State Community College Art Instructor Receives International Award

Congrats Carson Grubaugh

January 25, 2021 – Shelton State Community College (SSCC) is proud to announce the achievement of art instructor Carson Grubaugh.

With his 24” x 24” oil painting, “Kyle,” Grubaugh placed 3rd in the Portraiture category of the 15th International Art Renewal Center (ARC) Salon Competition. His work will be in the group exhibition to be held at both Sotheby’s, NY and the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona, Spain.

“I have followed this competition every year since I was a community college student and always wanted to just be IN it,” stated Grubaugh. “To be a category winner is beyond-bucket-list cool.”

This year the ARC received 4,941 entries from 83 countries. 40% of entries, which translates as 1,977 works, qualified as semi-finalists, which is in and of itself a great accomplishment, as there were a large number of very fine works that did not qualify as semi-finalists. ARC Salon Finalists comprise of a select group of the very top-rated entries, 1,155 works in all, or 23% of entries.

Leading the revival of realism in the visual arts, the Art Renewal Center (ARC), a 501(c)(3), non-profit, educational foundation, hosts the largest online museum dedicated to representational art and includes works by the old masters, 19th century, and 21st Century Artists as well as articles, letters and other online resources. The ARC runs the ARC Salon Competition, which is the largest and most prestigious competition in the world for realist artists painting, sculpting and drawing today with eleven categories and thousands of works competing, culminating in a traveling live exhibition of many of the winning works.
