Shelton State Community College Announces Summer Dance Intensive 2024

April 22, 2024 – Shelton State Community College will host a Summer Dance Intensive June 10-14, 2024, at the College’s Martin Campus. The summer workshop is open to teens ages 14 to 18 and sessions for all skill levels are available.

Now in its second year, the Summer Dance Intensive offers courses for beginners and intermediate/advanced dancers. Beginner-level sessions are each day from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Intermediate/advanced level sessions are from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day. A final showcase will be open to the public on Friday, May 14 at 11:00 a.m. The registration deadline is May 24, and the registration fee is $125 per dancer. The registration fee includes the sessions for the week, the opportunity to perform in the final showcase, and merchandise items such as a custom T-shirt and photo opportunities.

Participants will train in multiple forms of dance during the week, including ballet, contemporary jazz, and hip-hop and perform during the final showcase. Additionally, students will be able to meet and talk with Shelton State’s dance scholarship students during the program.

“Summer Dance Intensive is the perfect opportunity for teens in the community to continue to develop and enhance their dance technique,” stated Miranda Zapata, dance program coordinator at Shelton State. “Our goal is for each student to come away from our summer program with a deeper love for dance and a valuable learning experience!”

SSCC’s dance program aims to deliver dynamic experiences and curriculum to cultivate and foster growth in every student. The program also seeks to further creativity in the 21st-century artist and uplift students to amplify their voices through dance.
