April 11, 2023 – Shelton State Community College (SSCC) and The University of Alabama (UA) are partnering to create a bridge program for students transitioning from SSCC to UA. The institutions’ leaders will hold a ceremonial signing on Monday, April 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Shelton State’s Martin Campus (9500 Old Greensboro Road, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35405). Members of the media are invited to attend.

The memorandum of understanding between the schools provides continuous and concurrent enrollment for Shelton State students transitioning to UA. Through the Shelton State Bridge Program, UA will accept up to 150 SSCC students who meet the minimum requirements of 24 completed college credit hours, a 3.0 GPA, and good academic standing. Bridge Program students will have access to student services at UA to encourage familiarity with the campus and ease the transition from SSCC to UA. Services include access to Crimson Tide athletics tickets, the UA Student Recreation Center, parking, UA Career Center, and UA ACT card.

“The Shelton State Bridge Program allows our students to transition between SSCC and The Capstone seamlessly,” said Dr. Jonathan Koh, SSCC President. “The University has opened its doors to welcome our students and provide them not only with academic support as they transfer but also the opportunity to join the on-campus student experience and enjoy amenities provided to UA students.”

The Bridge Program extends the relationship between SSCC and UA. Last fall, the institutions signed an articulation agreement that created a defined transfer process and access to scholarships, academic advising, career coaching, and counseling.

“The University of Alabama stands firm in its commitment to facilitating transfer students’ seamless transition into our esteemed institution. This commitment is exemplified by our partnership with Shelton State Community College,” affirmed UA President Stuart R. Bell. “We aim to streamline the transfer process, allowing students to concentrate on pursuing their bachelor’s degree at the Capstone and forging remarkable futures.”
