Shelton State Community College Adult Education Recognized for Student Success

July 1, 2025 – Shelton State Community College Adult Education was recognized at the Alabama Association For Public Continuing And Adult Education (ALAPCAE) in Montgomery, Alabama, on June 24.

Following the success of the ACT WorkKeys pilot, Shelton State Adult Education was selected for two new Chromebooks. Additionally, ACT awarded each pilot school a Chromebook for each set of twenty students who took all four tests within a seven-day window and showed improvement when retesting.

During the ACT WorkKeys pilot, SSCC Adult Education administered 212 tests resulting in 140 passing scores, 21 credentials obtained, and 40 improved scores on retest. Twenty-nine students earned gift cards for pursuing the National Career Readiness Credential.

“We are so happy to share this good news because it not only showcases the work of our students, it reminds local employers about the students’ job readiness,” shared Kristen Bobo, Associate Dean of Workforce Development and Strategic Initiatives.

The National Career Readiness Credential is recognized by 123 employers in Tuscaloosa County and 23 in Bibb County. Through credentialing, students can obtain self-sufficiency and benefits-earning work.
