Shelton State Community College Accepting Applications for New Program

Now Accepting Applications. SSCC New Program. Medical Laboratory Technician

June 7, 2021 – Shelton State Community College (SSCC) is now accepting applications for its new Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) program. This growing field in healthcare will provide new opportunities for employment for its graduates.

The associate degree in medical laboratory technician at SSCC will prepare students for entry-level competencies necessary to perform routine clinical laboratory test in all major areas of the medical laboratory. It offers a balanced curriculum set to be completed in five consecutive semesters. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the National Board of Certification exam and become a nationally certified medical laboratory technician.

“Modern medicine would be impossible without the complex tests performed in the Medical Laboratory,” stated Dr. Mwafaq Haji, the program director for SSCC’s MLT. “Since up to 80% of medical decisions made by physicians are based on laboratory test results, it’s clear that medical laboratory technicians are a critical part of the diagnostic management team in providing the best patient safety and care.” (ASCP.org/BOC)
