February 14, 2018 – Shelton State Community College’s (SSCC) chapter of Collegiate 100 will host its annual Black History Program on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. on the Martin Campus. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.

The theme of the program is “Setting the Framework for Success,” and the chapter president, Ms. Toya Carter, will be the guest speaker. Ms. Carter is the third elected president of the organization and has been a charter member since its inception in 2015. She is a graduate of Russell County High School and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design with honors from Alabama State University. Currently, she serves as Shelton State Community College Collegiate 100 President and is pursuing an Associates in Applied Science degree in general business to enhance her knowledge and gain necessary experience toward employment opportunities.

“We’re extremely excited that we get the chance to showcase our own during this year’s annual Black History Program,” says Eric Prewitt, Shelton State Community College Collegiate 100 Chapter Advisor. “Ms. Carter has been with us since the beginning, and she knows from first-hand knowledge what it takes and some of the struggles that this type of student organization will have to endure to continue the legacy of those who have come before us.”

Shelton State Community College’s Collegiate 100 is the first community college chapter in the state of Alabama and one of the few chapters in the nation with co-ed members. Collegiate 100 provides an avenue for chapters of 100 Black Men of America, Inc. to continue their one-on-one mentoring program for students as they matriculate from high school to college. The program supports the initiatives set forth by the 100 Way Across a Lifetime organization.
