March 7, 2018 – The Alabama Region of Phi Theta Kappa held its annual convention the first weekend in March. Awards were given with many recognizing the achievements of Shelton State’s Alpha Epsilon Iota chapter.

The following awards were presented to Shelton State Phi Theta Kappa:

  • Five Star Chapter Award
  • Distinguished Chapter Award
  • Distinguished Theme Award – Honors in Action project
  • Distinguished Advisor Team – Shywanda Moore and Dr. Kevin Windham
  • Outstanding Chapter Member – Caroline Smith

The chapter’s College Project focused on mental health concerns of the College’s student body, and the Honors in Action (HIA) project addressed the academic struggles of elementary school-aged children for whom English is a second language. The action component of the HIA project allowed purchase and delivery of Spanish to English picture dictionaries to each of the fifty elementary schools in the College’s service area.

“This was another banner year for the chapter,” said advisor, Dr. Kevin Windham. “We are looking forward to the International Convention in April, and we hope to be recognized at the international level.”
