Theatre Tuscaloosa Presents God of Carnage

God of Carnage -- play flier

September 24, 2018 – Theatre Tuscaloosa will present Yazmina Reza’s God of Carnage October 19-28, 2018, in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Road).

In this three-time 2009 Tony-award winner, a playground altercation between eleven-year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, tensions emerge and the gloves come off leaving the couples with little more than just their dedicated principles in tatters. This comedic play will take audiences on an entertaining journey through the dark side of parenthood.

“‘He said, she said’ is complicated enough when it is just between two people. What if you had two couples (4 parents) gathered in a room to discuss an altercation between their 11-year-old sons?,” said Charles Prosser, director. “Can two educated, sophisticated, modern couples have a civilized conversation about their dueling offspring? Will the couples have one another’s back? What is clafouti anyway? For the answers to these and many other questions, come see God of Carnage.”

The cast features Steven Yates, Jennifer Guffin, Bryne Zuege, and Kasey Kauffman. The production team includes Ashlyn Lambert, stage manager; Wheeler Kincaid, scenic designer; John Hisey, lighting designer; and Jeanette Waterman, costume designer.

Theatre Tuscaloosa’s 2018-19 season is supported by Shelton State Community College, the City of Tuscaloosa, The Alabama State Council on the Arts, Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, Inc., WVUA23, and Tuscaloosa Radio.
