Theatre Tuscaloosa Receives $40,000 Grant
April 21, 2026 – Theatre Tuscaloosa has received the Creative Places Art Facilities grant of $40,000 from the Alabama State Council on the Arts to enhance and upgrade the lighting systems throughout the Bean-Brown Theatre.
With these funds, Theatre Tuscaloosa will begin the second of a three phase transition to LED theatrical lighting in the Bean-Brown Theatre. Theatre Tuscaloosa’s mission is to improve the quality of life in West Alabama by producing world-class theatrical and educational programs that are amplified by this grant. Theatre Tuscaloosa is making Alabama’s communities stronger and our state’s arts and culture sector more vibrant.
“Our high-quality theatrical experiences invite audiences to connect more deeply with the magic of live theatre,” said Executive Producer Michael Walker. “The lighting upgrades mark an exciting new chapter, allowing us to better utilize our space and continue building toward the future. We are incredibly grateful to the Alabama State Council on the Arts for their generous support in making this grant possible.”
The Alabama State Council on the Arts is the official state agency for the support and development of the arts in Alabama. The Council works to expand and preserve the state’s cultural resources by supporting nonprofit arts organizations, schools, colleges, units of local government, and individual artists. Arts programs, assisted by Council grants, have a track record of enhancing community development, education, cultural tourism, and overall quality of life in all regions of the state.
Alabama State Council on the Arts grants are made possible by an annual appropriation from the Alabama Legislature and additional funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Learn more at arts.alabama.gov.
Theatre Tuscaloosa’s upcoming production of “Big Fish” is brought to audiences partially by the Alabama State Council on the Arts. “Big Fish” runs July 17-26 in the Bean-Brown Theatre.
