SSCC News Spring Image

April 14, 2026 – Shelton State Community College (SSCC) Workforce Development will offer free, one-day STEAM camps for high school students introducing concepts related to manufacturing. A session for students entering 8th and 9th grades will be held on June 9, 2026, and a session for students entering grades 10 through 12 will be held on June 10, 2026. Each free one-day camp will be held on the College’s Martin Campus from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

During these hands-on workshops, students will step into the world of modern manufacturing. They will learn how computers control machines through computerized programming; use manual machines to shape metal parts; melt plastic and mold it into real products; and design, build, and test manufactured parts.

The goal of the camp is for students to work as real machinists in a lab environment. By the end of the camp, participants will understand how everyday products are designed and made in real factories.
