Shelton State Accepting Applications for TMCF SOAR Program

TMCF SOAR Scholars Program

March 16, 2026 – Shelton State Community College will host its Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) SOAR/HBCU Scholars Program July 12-17, 2026. Applications are now open and will be accepted until April 13, 2026. Space is limited.

 

The TMCF SOAR/HBCU Scholars Program is a one-week residential summer program for high-achieving current high school juniors. This program offers students a unique opportunity to explore Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Historically Black Community Colleges (HBCCs). Participants will gain valuable insights into college admissions, financial aid, and scholarship resources while also exploring academic majors and career pathways. This program is offered at no cost to participants.

 

Eligibility requirements for applicants include the following:

  • Must be a member of the graduating class of 2027
  • Must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Must have an academic transcript (official or unofficial)
  • Must submit a letter of recommendation from an academic teacher, administrator, advisor, coach, or counselor at high school
  • Must write a personal statement (250-300 words) responding to the following prompt:
    • What are your short-term and long-term goals after high school? How can your participation in the TMCF SOAR Program assist you in achieving these goals?”
