Shelton State Community College Phi Theta Kappa Receives Recognition

Phi Theta Kappa

March 27, 2023 – Shelton State Community College’s (SSCC) Alpha Epsilon Iota chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) was recently acknowledged at the Alabama Regional Convention.

In addition to being named a REACH Chapter for membership acceptance, the chapter received the highest level of engagement possible by being designated as a 5-Star Chapter. Members of Phi Theta Kappa were also given the Continued Excellence Award and placed 5th out of 33 total chapters in the Alabama Region.

Phi Theta Kappa’s REACH (Recognizing Excellence in Acceptance and Completion with Honors) Reward program recognizes and rewards Phi Theta Kappa chapters that excel in membership development. The program encourages PTK membership by rewarding chapters who achieve or exceed 15 percent for their membership acceptance rate.  Created to support the mission of Phi Theta Kappa, the REACH Reward program seeks to offer benefits of membership — scholarships and increased opportunities for engagement with peers and faculty on campus, which lead to higher rates of completion – to as many students as possible.

“Phi Theta Kappa is a unique experience for two-year college students, and we are pleased to have the support of the College’s faculty, staff, and administration,” stated Dr. Kevin Windham, one of the chapter’s sponsors. “We are so proud of the students for their accomplishments this year and look forward to continued success.”

The chapter’s national conference, PTK Catalyst, will be held in Columbus, Ohio, in mid-April. Seven Shelton State PTK members will attend.
